A
Dental Crown is a "cap" or covering that fits over a damaged, decayed, or unattractive tooth. You can even replace a whole tooth as part of a
dental bridge construction. Crowns cover the entire tooth above the gum line. It is different from a dental veneer, which only covers the front surface of the tooth and needs the natural structure of the tooth to support it. Therefore, if a tooth has lost a significant amount of structure above the gum line, a crown would be the appropriate restoration.
Crowns strengthen damaged teeth, allowing them to function normally again. When made with today's high-tech porcelains (dental ceramics), they are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. They can even be designed to improve the original appearance of the tooth.
